Urban Renewal Programme: We’re in tune with Wike’s de-congestion plan of Port-Harcourt, says GCBMDA – From Chukwudi Ejimofor/PH

In line with Governor Nyesom Wike’s decongestion plan of Port Harcourt, the state capital, and the decentralization of government projects outside the city, a trader’s Union, the Garden City Building Material Dealers Association,(GCBMDA, has concluded plans to relocate their market to Aluu community, along Airport Road in Ikwerre Local Government Area, of the state.

Currently, GCBMDA currently operates within the vicinities of Rivers State University main gate to Ikwerre Road Agip Junction, Ada George Road in Port Harcourt

The multi-million-naira ultra-modern building material market project is solely owned by GCBMDA). The ultra- modern market complex that covers about twenty acres of land mass is expected to be a prototype of standard market in Rivers state.

In a chat with the Chairman of the association Comrade (Amb.) Calistus Nnadika, whom under his tenure the project got to the ground breaking stage, on what is expected during the ground breaking ceremony said:

 ”My association is praying that his Excellency Chief (Hon.) Ezenwo Nyesom Wike Esq. will perform the ground Breaking ceremony, support by the Executive Chairman of Ikwerre LGA, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike and the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs Ifeoma Nwanpka.

Comrade Nnadika further contended that the standard of the ultra-modern market is the first of its kind to be built by a Trader’s Union in Rivers state.

”We are building an ultra-modern building materials market, first of its kind in Rivers state, something that is a prototype, that will have administrative block, a Creche, Five hundred lockup shops, Twelve Market Plazas of Two story buildings each, five ware houses, restaurants, public conveniences, police post, Fire service complex, Recreational facilities and other ancillaries that is known of modern and conventional markets”.

Comrade Nnadika expressed the optimism that the ultra-modern building material market should be completed in the within the next twenty-four months.

”We projected the project to be a three year project budget; the structural drawing, building plans and government approval and other logistics has taking about 18 months, as the ground breaking is done, God’s willing, in the next twenty-four months we hope to have our dream of the ultra modern market achieved” Comrade Nnadika posited.

The Vice Chairperson of the association, Lady Mrs. Chinwe Uchegbu stressed the gladness and expectations of the entire members of the association as the process of the building of their ultra modern market is in progress. 

”Our ultra-modern market building project is a massive project, and the entire members of the association are very enthusiastic to see the project is concluded. It has been our heart beat for the project to commence and completed within the time frame. From the time of the acquisition of the land to all logistics for government approval we have done a lot to see that this project is put in place”. Mrs. Uchegbu stressed.

Evangelist Chibundu Chimaobi, the project Chairman of the association expressed delight over the cordial relationship their association is having with their host community Mobodo Aluu, the Ikwerre Local Government Area and the Rivers state Government since they commenced the project.

”So far, we are encouraged by the cooperation we are receiving from the host community Mbodo, in Aluu clan, the Ikwerre LGA and Rivers state government.

The project started four years ago, we planned its execution in phases, you know we are traders. We expect that we shall relocate to this market in the next two years. And as we keyed into Rivers state government’s massive urban renewal programme, we expect them encourage us in way to see that this project is completed within the scheduled time”. Evangelist Chimaobi concluded.
