Niger state Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, has described the death of former Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain and the Republic of Chad, Prof. Bawa Salka, as a huge loss to not only the state, but also to the country at large.
Gov. Sani Bello in a condolence message to the family of the deceased, and the entire Kambari people in Salka, Magama Local Government Area of the State, recounted how committed and dedicated the deceased was to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria in general.
He said Prof. Salka who was an educationist, diplomat and politician, has left a vacuum that will be difficult to fill.
The governor, however, acknowledged that “death is a necessary end to all mortals, all we can do now is to pray for the repose of his soul”.
He also prayed God to grant his family members, Kambari people in Salka, Magama Local Government Area the fortitude to bear the loss.
Born in 1938 at Salka, Magama Local Government Area of Niger State, Prof. Bawa Salka, started his education at Auna Elementary School in 1945 to 1949 and obtained his first Degree in 1973, Master of Arts 1976 and PhD in 1979.
Late Prof. Salka was a permanent secretary establishment, with the Niger state government in 1982, who later became a Commissioner for Health and Special Duties in 1983.
He became Acting Registrar, Federal University of Technology, Minna in 1984, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Spain and the Republic of Chad.
The deceased was also the National Secretary of NRC in 1993.
He received several awards for diligence and meritorious service, and had many publications on education in his name among which are Universal Primary Education in Niger State; Non-Formal Education Programme in Niger State; and Co-operative Education.
