The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Abia State Chapter, says its attention has been drawn to a desperate and sinister move by the ruling-Peoples Democratic Party to use the state judiciary to scuttle its primary elections scheduled to hold soon.
The party stated this in a statement signed by the state Chairman of the party, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere, and issued to newsmen in Umuahia on Friday. “We hereby raise the alarm that the PDP-government has recruited and sponsored some enemies of APGA, who are agents of destabilization, to penetrate the judiciary for purposes of using it to reduce our chances of winning the 2023 elections in the state.
“They know full well that APGA remains the people’s bride with 90 per cent chances of winning the 2023 general elections in Abia state. “This sinister plan was perfected in Aba on Thursday and the strategy is to use the instrumentality of the government to pressure a sitting judge of the state High Court to secure a ‘black market’ exparte order against APGA,” Ehiemere stated.The party implored the Chief Judge of the state to take note of the development.”APGA as a matter of necessity further implores the judiciary to be vigilant and ensure that the party is ‘put on Notice’, regarding any suit involving APGA or any of its executive officers before any High Court in the state,” the chairman stated.
He further reaffirmed the party’s “implicit confidence” in the state judiciary as an impartial institution and its role in the protection of the nation’s nascent democracy and the rule of law. “The judiciary in Abia state cannot allow itself to be abused and or ridiculed by desperate politicians, the statement added. The party warned those behind the plan “to desist forthwith from their evil plans which are anti-democratic in nature”.
According to him, the law will soon catch up with them, should they fail to refrain from their evil and undemocratic acts. Efforts made to get the reaction of the state government were unsuccessful as the Commissioner for Information could not pick his calls. The Publicity Secretary of PDP in the state, Mr Fabian Nwankwo, said he was not aware of such plan. (End)
