Mr Okenwa Uka, a House of Representatives aspirant in the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections has promised to prioritise infrastructural development and youth economic empowerment if elected.
Uka who is aspiring to represent the people of Afikpo North/Afikpo South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives assured that he would leverage his experience in political engineering to provide effective representation to his constituency.
“I have been around in politics. I know alot about the electioneering process and have garnered enough experience to offer credible representation.
“I participated in the election that brought Christopher Omo-Isu as the house of representatives member for the Afikpo North/Afikpo South federal constituency in 2007.
“I know what our people want and I can assure you that if given the opportunity, I shall make our people happy again.
“I have sited where we can expand our coast; atttact a bridge that will connect Afikpo South (Edda) with Cross River state for enhanced movement of people and agricultural produce.
“Our people are hardworking, we will build ultra modern skills acquisition centres in strategic parts of the constituency where youths can learn and acquire life changing skills,” Ukah said.
He said that the greatest challenge of youths was consumption of hard drugs largely, “because they don’t have anything meaningfully that they are doing.”
He emphasised that creation of skills acquisition centres would help to teach empowerment skills to the youths and take take them away from indulging in life of crime.
He said: “I have a roadmap where I will divide Edda into two and divide Afikpo into two and we will do our best to build skill acquisition centres,well equipped in each of the state constituencies that make up the federal constituency.
“We will build for Afikpo South-West; we will do for Afikpo North-West, we will do in Afikpo North-East and Afikpo South-East so that our people can go their and acquire relevant empowerment skills.
“Many of our youths in the rural areas no longer go to school, so, we can use skills development centres to drive them back to education even if it is informal education.”
Uka, member of the Governing Board, Federal College of Education, Bali in Taraba and the immediate state financial secretary of APC said that APC in Ebonyi was peaceful while members were coexisting harmoniously.
“APC is one, very much indivisible and we have no problem; what we have is the normal thing you have in politics and that is interest.
“One of us here is wearing Gov. Yahaya Bello’s cap and if I bring out my Gov. Dave Umahi’s cap will you say that we are having problem?
“We are not having any problem, we are only talking about the people if they are elected our people will rejoice,” he added. END//
