Gov. Umahi
Barely a week after he failed to clinch the Presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during its special Convention/Presidential Primary election held in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Governor David Nweze Umahi, of Ebonyi State returned to Abakaliki the state capital, to suspend the State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development Mr. Okechukwu Orlando Nweze.
Mr. Orland Nweze was suspended for allegedly lacking the ability to discharge his duties effectively.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kenneth Ugbala, made this known in a statement, on Wednesday, June 15th.
According to Ugbala, “the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. Chief David Nweze Umahi, has directed indefinite suspension of Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Hon. Okechukwu Orlando Nweze, with effect from June 15th 2022, for his inability to discharge his duty effectively.
The SSG further stated: “In the light of the above, Mr Orlando Nweze has hereby been directed to hand over all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance and Economic Development before the close of work on Wednesday 15th June 2022.”
The suspended Commissioner was directed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
Competent sources close to Government House, Abakaliki, told SummitNews that Mr. Orlando Nweze’s suspension might not be unconnected with his alleged shoddy handling of payments made to Ebonyi APC delegates to the just concluded primary election to choose the party’s presidential flagbearer in the upcoming general elections.
Governor Umahi scored 38 votes at the primary election.
