There is palpable tension in Enugu State capital as hoodlums reportedly attacked police checkpoint and killed yet to be ascertained number of operatives.
The incident which happened on Thursday morning, was to have occurred at Gariki, MTD area in Enugu South local government area of the state capital.
At the time of filing this report sources told our correspondent that shootings were still renting the air as residents scampered to safety.
A source sent a text message thus: “there is shooting at Gariki, MTD area and that two policemen and some other persons have been killed.
“It is unclear who might have been behind the attack as the gunmen struck the checkpoint around 9:10 am.It is also not clear whether the hoodlums attacked the MTD police station that is less than three poles to the checkpoint.
When the state Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe was contacted for reaction, he could not be reached on telephone as his phone was said switched off.
