· Gov. Umahi: Passionate about empowering his people
Ebonyi State Governor David Nweze Umahi, has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to ensure that a reasonable percentage of Ebonyi people benefited from its various empowerment programmes before he leaves office on May 29, 2023.
Governor Umahi gave the indication in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, during the flag off of the 2nd phase of the empowerment of 8000 beneficiaries, as part of the programmes to mark Nigeria’s 62nd Independence Anniversary and the 26th Anniversary of the creation of Enonyi State.
He recalled that his administration has embarked on series of programmes aimed at boosting the capacity of the people of the state, adding that over 1.2b naira was earmarked for the 2nd phase of the empowerment programme, targetted at no fewer than 8000 beneficiaries.
Umahi announced that in the next few months, his administration, will do more to empower the people and engage them to find business opportunities in government’s critical infrastructure.
“We have flagged off Ebonyi Cares empowerment programme targeting micro, small and medium enterprises, small holder farmers and public and civil servants, who may wish to take advantage of the second address policy of our administration, to go into farming”, he said.
According to him, the state government is poised to assist the citizens through financial empowerment and mentorship programmes, geared towards reinforcing their livelihood.
Governor Umahi observed that this year’s celebration which is the last before the end of his tenure as Governor offers opportunity for the Citizens to appraise the performance of his administration in the last seven years.
“It is symbolic as it is a moment to render a rewarding account of our stewardship in our two-term mandate to serve the people of Ebonyi State. We believe that this particular celebration offers the best opportunity for public scrutiny of our performance records,” he emphasized.
The Governor commended President Muhammadu Buhari and all the Leaders of Nigeria for their efforts at keeping the Country united despite daunting challenges.
“Our special felicitations go to the father of the nation and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. He has remained a leader with fatherly heart and soft spot for the cause of our country,” he maintained.
The Governor also listed major achievements of his administration to include; over five thousand kilometers of road on concrete pavement, Ebonyi Shopping Mall, and over fourteen twin flyovers.
Others are; David Umahi Federal University of Medical Sciences, Uburu and the ongoing Ebonyi International Airport among others.
“Today, every local government has 25-kilometer concrete road of 8 inches thickness and 20 km street light of 6pm to 6am non-stop.” he added.
On security, Governor Umahi assured the commitment of his administration to continue to ensure adequate security for Citizens of the State through aggressive policing.
In his words, “we also connected major junctions of the State with CCTV cameras to track criminals, we installed traffic light in the major roundabouts to ensure traffic control and a viewing centre that provides security satellite for the State.”
He further said his his administration has created and fortified Ebubeagu Security Outfit, with over 4000 officials who are paid monthly to provide intelligence and add value to the security architecture of the State
