Frank Nweke jnr – “We’ll make life better for our people.”
The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Enugu State, Mr. Frank Nweke Jr, on Thursday brought smiles on the faces of teachers in the state when he promised that they will be paid their full entitlements including pensions if he becomes the next governor of the state.
This is just as he promised that his administration will focus on economic transformation of the state using availabe human and materials resources.
“Teachers welfare and training will receive significant attention under my watch,” said the former minister of information, adding that a “labourer is worthy of his wages.”
Nweke who stated this during a town hall meeting with Enugu business community organised by the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture,(ECCIMA), and ECOBPA , also assured that his administration would work with the relevant institutions to ensure uninterrupted electricity and potable water supplies in the state.
He also promised that his administration would “resolve” the non-indigene issue that has engendered discrimintion in employment against non-indigenes living in the state.
He described Enugu state as great in potentials, but regretted that lack of good leadership system had stymied progress and development of the state over the years.
He said proactive steps must be taken by the people to save the state from drifting to the potential abyss of a failed state.
According to him, it was high time people took back the state and vote individuals with the capability to transform it.
“With the right leadership, we can leverage on the rich potentials in Enugu State to bring transformational leadership and make life better for our people,” the APGA gubernatorial candidate remarked.
Nweke jr, also a former Director-General of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, said the 2023 general election was another good opportunity for the citizens to elect who had shown great passion to serve, insisting that if they failed to act fast, development might continue to elude the state.
He said, his administration would focus on creating wealth and harnessing the state comparative advantage towards enabling the people and their businesses to thrive well.
“One thing we will focus significantly is the issue of Economic Transformation, we will make a conscious departure from the politics of managing poverty to creating wealth, we will change the ideology,” he said.
Speaking on the geographical advantages Enugu poses to succeed economically, Nweke said, all that is needed to harness them is a leadership characterized with vision and direction.
On the goal of his administration to ease ways of doing business if elected, the former Minister of Information acknowledged access to land, saying it was difficult to access landed property in the state.On taxation, the APGA governorship candidate promised to simplify the system through digitization while further revealing that his leadership would curb the unlawful and unnecessary harassment of small scale traders in the state.
“We are going to work with the state board of internal revenue to digitize the taxation system in the state. we are going to expand it, make it more open and more transparent.
“We know about the multiplicity of taxation and levies administered by multiple agencies, am I lying? There is no way business can strive under such circumstances,” Nweke insisted.
He vowed to restore trust in government and block all leakages in expenditure, as well as strengthen the judiciary, and improve the conditions of service of the judges.
He declared that his administration would have no tolerance for corruption and corrupt practices, assuring that public resources would be used for public good.
The APGA governorship-hopeful said he anchored his manifesto on what he termed ‘Seven Key Thrusts for Reigniting the Coal City state.’
Nweke promised to harness the young population in Enugu State and provide the enabling environment for them to achieve their purpose and potentials.
He also promised to build gas power plant to harness the gas deposit in the state to provide electricity for the people.
The APGA standard flag bearer also promised to liaise with the relevant federal government authorities to fully realise the construction of the permanent site of Enugu International Trade Fair Complex.
