Chief Aja Agha, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), in Ebonyi has said Chief Edozie Njoku, the national chairman of APGA is the man to take the party to next level.
Agha disclosed this in an interview with our correspondent on Friday in Abakaliki.
According to him, the blueprint and agenda developed by the Njoku-led administration will reposition the party and turn it into a leading national party to be reckoned with in Nigeria.
The chieftain lamented the festering leadership crisis rocking the party at the national level and called on the critical stakeholders to unite in the interest of the party and round Njoku
He said that the party has been able to maintain it its grip on the governance of Anambra state since the emergence of Mr Peter Obi to date due to the acceptance of the party in the South-East.
He added that the stakeholders of the party must work together to make APGA a truly national party especially as the 2023 general elections drew closer.
He said: “In 2009, Obi reclaimed his mandate through the court from Dr Chris Ngige of the then People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who was sworn in 2007.
“After Mr Peter Obi, our great party was lucky to retain the rein of power under Chief Willie Obianor who completed his eight years of two tenures and handed over to Prof. Charles Soludo, another party man.
” God has endowed our party with some of the best brains in Nigerian politics and men with great leadership skills but, unfortunately, the party has been bedevilled with a leadership crisis.
“However, the party is about to put all the crises that had previously rocked it behind with the emergence of Njoku as the national chairman.
” I am calling on Gov. Charles Soludo, Chief Victor Oye, immediate past national chairman of APGA and other chieftains of our great party to close ranks and support the NNjoku-led leadership to take our party to its destination.
“APGA has the potential to win the governorship seats and national assembly seats in the 2023 elections not only in the South-East but across the other geopolitical zones in Nigeria if only we can unite and keep our house in order.”
Agha, the acting state chairman said that the Supreme Court judgement of 2021 that gave affirmed the Owerri 2019 party’s national convention that brought Njoku to power has led all leadership tussle in the party to rest.
Our correspondent recalls that APGA in 2019 held parallel conventions at Owerri and Awka in 2019 respectively resulting in the emergence of Njoku and Oye laying claims to the national championship of the party.
However, Agha said that a Supreme Court judgement delivered in 2020 by a panel of five Judges awarded victory to Njoku as the authentic national chairman of APGA.
