A faction of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has called on the Federal Government, to order the arrest of Simon Ekpa, for allegedly causing chaos in the South-East of Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Ohanaeze factional Secretary-Genetal, Okechukwu Isiguzo and made available to newsmen yesterday in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.
Summitnews reports that the call came in the aftermath of the pandemonium which took over the capital city of Abakaliki yesterday, following purported attempts to enforce the sit-at-home order declared in the area, by Finland based Nigerian, Simon Ekpa, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of properties yesterday in Abakaliki.
Ohanaeze said it has identified Ekpa as being responsible for current killings in Imo State, destruction of public properties in Enugu State and disturbance of public peace, as well as sporadic shootings in Ebonyi State, asking Federal Government to arrest and repatriate him to face prosecution.
According to the statement, “Ndigbo will liaise with relevant organisations, Finish Embassy in Nigeria, and Nigerians in the Diaspora to seek extradition of Ekpa to Nigeria to face prosecution and trials over killings of Southeasterners, burning of public properties, and disturbances of public peace.”
Recall that in the wee hours of yesterday, unknown gunmen invaded the popular Ishieke market on the old Enugu Road and after they had set the market ablaze, attacked another market, ahia ohuru along the Enugu-Abakaliki highway.
Summitnews gathered that Abakaliki, the Ebonyi Sate capital was fully deserted, following sporadic gunshots from different locations, as people ran for their lives, even as many who had earlier opened shops for businesses, were forced to shut down
