Chief Chukwuka Utazi, the Senate Minority Whip on Saturday inaugurated gigantic four-block market stalls at the Amanvu community of Nkalagu in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.
The project was constructed and donated to the people of Amanvu by Sen. Obinna Ogba representing Ebonyi Central senatorial zone.
Utazi, representing Enugu North senatorial zone described the project as ‘massive’ stressing that the facility would boost trade and commerce in the locality, especially in the marketing of agricultural produce.
He commended Ogba for the project and urged the community to protect the buildings from vandalism and other forms of destruction.
He said that the attraction of democratic dividends to the people was the major hallmark of representative democracy and appreciated the Senate Committee Chairman on Youths Sports for his commitment to infrastructure development.
“This project belongs to you, as a community you must do everything within your powers to protect the facility against vandalism and destruction.
” The market will enhance trade, investment and other commercial activities because people from other neighbouring towns and communities will come to buy and sell commodities, especially food items,” Utazi said.
The lawmaker described Ogba as an outstanding and outspoken senator whose contributions on the floor of the senate had contributed to deepening democratic governance in Nigeria.
“Distinguished Sen. Ogba is an astute politician and a senator whose wealth of experience in lawmaking has contributed to fashioning good laws for the good democratic governance of our nation.
“In the Senate, we know ourselves, especially those of us from the South-East; and Ogba as one of the senators from the region is so committed and passionate in the pursuit of issues that will enhance the development, peace and progress in the zone.
” He is a ranking senator; vibrant, versatile and a credible lawmaker who has represented his zone so well as can be seen from the many constituency projects he attracted and ensured its completion in parts of the senatorial district zone including a mini-stadium to encourage sports development in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, Ogba in a brief remark commended the Amanvu people for their support, love and loyalty saying that the market was rebuilt and modernised to boost the economy of the area by providing a market for the sales of their agricultural commodities.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ogba lost to Chief IfeanyiChukwuma Odii, in his bid to secure the governorship ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the party’s gubernatorial primary election held in May 2022.
