The Abia state Government has banned with immediate effect, the operation of tricycle popularly known as KEKE in the state from 7 pm to 6 am daily, citing incessant reports on rising wave of crime allegedly perpetrated by some unpatriotic tricycle operators in the state.
A statement signed by the Secretary to Abia State Government Barrister Chris Ezem, and made available to SummitNews, states that the ban has been approved by the state governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu.
According to the statement security agencies in the state have been authorised to arrest, detain and prosecute dafaulters.
The statement reads: “Following incessant report on rising wave of crime perpetrated by some unpatriotic tricycle ( KEKE) operators in the State.
“The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Ph.D has approved the immediate ban on KEKE operation in the State from 7pm to 6am daily till further notice.
“Security Agencies in the State are to arrest, detain and prosecute defaulters.”
