Dima Dennis Charles Emerges Chairman Rivers State Football Referees’ Council – From Chukwudi Ejimofor/Port Harcourt

The Rivers State (Football) Referees’ Council, now has  a new state executive committee elected st her quadrennial/elective congress held at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt Sunday, 26th March, 2023. 

The delegates’ election congress that ushered  in the new executive of the council had Mr. Dima Dennis Charles emerge as Chairman with nine votes, defeating Mr. Wokoma, Solomon Innocent Anaele, (FIFA Retired) who had three votes out of total twelve votes cast. 

Other  officers elected were Mrs. Amadi Blessing O. Deputy Chairman. Mr. Eluozo Felix Chituru,1st Vice Chairman. Miss. Peter Celestina, 2nd Vice Chairman. Mr. George Welcome, General Secretary. Mr. Ugorji Stephen, Assistant General Secretary. Igwe Menibaa Nwaudo Treasurer. Mr. Onunwor Amos Ogundu, Financial Secretary. Mr.Gwatana Lewis Kwana, Training Officer. Mr. Taiwo Ikechukwu, Assistant Training Officer, Mr. Awata Eugene Fabian, Publicity Secretary and Miss. Ekechukwu Gladys. Welfare Officers.

Announcing the result of the election, the 2023 Rivers State (Football) Referees’ Council election supervisor, Comrade Oyowai Canus Abraham, from Bayelsa State (Football) Referees’ council, said the election was peaceful free and fair. He congratulated members of Rivers state football Referees’ council for their matured understanding.

“The election for now has come and gone, it was free, fair and peaceful. The candidates accepted the results. Am happy with the turn out of members. I thank the contestants for their peaceful disposition before, during and after the election”.

Addressing Journalists at the sideline after the election, Mr. Dima Dennis Charles expressed his gratitude to God and the delegates, promised all inclusive leadership.

“First, I give glory to the Almighty God who has made the day possible. I thank the delegates and everybody. My administration will be all inclusive government, everybody will be part of it.

We must ensure that the face of Rivers state (Football) Referees’ council will move to next the level in a positive way. We are going to showcase more are time unfolds”.

When asked his impression on his predecessor administrative performance in the past four years. He said “Am not going to consolidate on what my predecessor did, because the didn’t do anything. My promise is there is going to be huge different from the past administration to the incoming administration, because there is going to be a lot of innovations, there are going to be programmes that show stakeholders in football in Rivers state that football Referees’ exists.

Also speaking at the sideline, Mr. Dokubo Dabo Ere, past chairman of Rivers state football Referees’ council who was visibly elated with the out come of the election

Today am very happy with the out come of the election it was smooth transparent and fair. Contestants has tested their puplarity. I will only advice the present administration to look backwards the areas I succeeded the area the immediate past administration succeeded and compare it to the area they failed so that where we failed they will not fail, where we succeed they can improve on it. Will the caliber of officers in this administration I think they will beat my administrator’s record

Dokubo expressed his opinion on the performance of the immediate past administration of the council whom he scored below average compared to his for year tenure as chairman of the council.

“By the grace of God I have my track records. Considering what did during my tenure 2011-2015 comparing to the out gone administration that took two tenure of eight years, the immediate past administration I will score them below average because they could not improve on the things my administration left behind, equally they were not able to set a new record”

The event witnessed the presence of  elders of the Rivers of the Rivers State (Football) Referees’ Council and football enthusiasts.
