Niger State Gov. to submit names of 20 advisers to lawmakers, inspects locations for urban renewal projects

Gov. Bago: Committed to ensuring understanding between executive and legislature  

Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, has  said he will send names of 20 Special Advisers to the 10th State House of Assembly for approval immediately after the inauguration of the House in compliance with the provisions of the law. 

Governor Umaru Bago stated this when he received the State Assembly Members-elect for the 10th Assembly on congratulatory visit at the Security Chamber of the Government House, Minna, the state capital.

He assured that as a lawmaker who is conversant with Legislative activities, he will work tirelessly to ensure understanding between the legislature and executive.

The governor said:  “As colleagues, I understand the challenges of legislature and am also abreast with the happenings at the state level.

“As a team, we will work assiduously in ensuring that we understand ourselves.”

He commended the members-elect for amicably electing their leaders for smooth take-off of the 10th Legislature, adding that only the ritual of the inauguration will be performed in the state.

“You’ve shown maturity, you have resolved and have agreed to your words, all that we are going to do is to perform the ritual of inaugurating the Assembly”, he said.

On the request of the Members-elect for the Governor to be physically present at their inauguration ceremony, the governor said it is necessary for him to witness that of the National Assembly for the overall benefits of the state.

“Our existence as a State is in coexistence with the national and we have more stake collectively and it’s in our best interest for me to be at the National Assembly inauguration to pursue and make sure we have a very smooth leadership at the National Assembly,” he further explained.

He said a grand dinner will be organized to compensate them for his absence, and that it will be at his personal expense, not government. 

Member-elect, for Mariga Constituency, Barr. Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, who led other Members-elect said they were at the Government House to congratulate Governor Umaru Bago for a successful inauguration into office.

Sarkin Daji who observed that the governor has started on a good footing with the calibre of people he has appointed, expressed confidence that his administration will succeed 

 INSPECTS AREAS FOR URBAN RENEWAL PROJECTS IN MINNA

In another development, Gov.  Umaru Bago, has restated that his government will see to the realization of urban renewal plan in all the major cities in the state. 

The governor stated this when he went round to inspect some strategic locations within Minna, the state capital with the contractors to survey areas where some projects will be located.

He said re-modernizing the major towns have become necessary considering the poor environment the people are living in over the years. 

The governor expressed optimism that the people will be happy with the developmental projects even if it will cost them their buildings so long, they will be compensated. 

“We want an urban renewal in all the major cities in the state. We want to introduce bridges and under passes, expand the roads, create new layouts and bye-passes so that business will thrive,” he said.

On how to source resources for the projects he said “if you take loans for infrastructural development, people will not cry and it will pay itself.

“What we are bringing here is a complete package, the funding for this project have already been secured and we are hitting the ground running, he further disclosed. 

Areas inspected were Obasanjo complex, Mobil roundabout, Tunga roundabout, City gate roundabout, Tugan Goro, Chanchaga Bridge, Barkin Sale-Morris Bridge, Kpakungu and Old Secretariat roundabout amongst others
