Prof Nnamchi – judgment, perversion of justice
The member representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State in the House of Representatives, Prof. Sunday Nnamchi, has instructed his legal team to challenge the nullification of his election by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Enugu, at the Court of Appeal.
Prof. Nnamchi who spoke with SummitNews through his Special Assistant on Media, Mr. Sam Nwanze, described the judgment as perversion of justice, adding that he won’t lose sleep over the development.
Recall that the tribunal on Friday sacked the Labour Party (LP) House of Representatives member, and declared Prince Cornelius Nnaji, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as winner of the February 25, 2023 National Assembly election.
Prince Nnaji, a one-term Federal lawmaker, had challenged the declaration of Prof. Nnamchi by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election on the grounds that Prof. Nnamchi was not duly sponsored and qualified to contest the election on the platform of LP.
In its judgment on the petition, the three-man panel led by A. M. Abubakar, agreed with the petitioner that the LP candidate was not qualified to contest the election, and, therefore, declared Prince Nnaji as the lawful winner of the election.
