Police Community Relations Committee honours distinguished personalities, unveils Calendar – From Chukwudi Ejimofor/Port Harcourt

A call has gone out to the public to support the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), to enable it carry out its statutory functions of protecting lives and property of citizens.

Making the call at an event in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, organized by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Olu Obasanjo Division, to honour some of its members, friends, associates and public-spirited individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to humanity, Chairman of the occasion, Douglas James Oromobor, said that without the police, nobody will live peacefully in the society today.

 “There are so many things government cannot do for the Nigerian Police, but we on our own can help out,” Oromobor said.

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Nwonyi Emeka, thanked the PCRC for its support to the Nigeria Police, adding that security is everybody’s business.

The CP who was represented by CSP Blessing Daniel, of Port Harcourt Metropolitan Area Command, appealed to members of the PCRC to continue encouraging the Police to perform their functions by volunteering credible information.

Also speaking, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Olu Obasanjo Division, CSP Blaise Etete, assured that the NPF is determined to perform its duties of securing the society, saying that the force is constrained by lack of operational logistics like vehicles and other equipment.

The Divisional Police Officer who was represented by DSP Essien Isong, urged PCRC members and the public to step up their support for the Nigerian Police, which according to him is for the betterment of citizens of this country.

Addressing Journalists at the sideline of the event, the Divisional Police Officer of Okehi Division in Etche LGA, SUP Gift Abba, said he helped in sanitizing the Olu Obasanjo Division for the need of PCRC, according to him, now that he is posted to Okehi as Divisional Police Officer he has replicated same there.

Asked where he derived his inspiration from. Abba said he has been privileged to serve outside the country, hence his experience and exposure in such development

Also addressing Journalists, the Rivers State Chairman of PCRC, Mr. Voko Emore, tasked his members to continue their collaboration with the Nigerian Police in the overall interest of the society.

He rolled out some of their achievements to include building and renovation of the Police Officers’ Mess, furnishing, among others.

Mr. Emore, said that his administration has concluded arrangements with the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), to fast-rack the issuance of PCRC members in the State. 

He lauded the leadership of PCRC, Olu Obasanjo Division and urged them to sustain the tempo; assuring that the ongoing secretariat project of Olu Obasanjo Division will be completed before December, 2023.

Earlier in his welcome address, Comrade Ambassador Obasi appealed to his members and public-spirited individuals to support PCRC Olu Obasanjo Division, stressing that the Division’s only operational vehicle was donated by a Church which has broken down and urgently needs replacement to enhance their services.

Comrade Obasi said that the proceeds from the Calendar launch would be used to support the Nigerian Police, and therefore, appealed to all and sundry to be part of the launching.

He explained that the award was meant to encourage people who have distinguished themselves in service to humanity, and them to continue in their philanthropic gestures.

Comrade Obasi assured that PCRC under his leadership will continue to support the Nigerian Police to discharge its responsibility of protecting lives and property effectively.

The occasion featured Comedian Angel De Laugh, awards, donations and induction of some individuals as Patrons of PCRC.
