The newly elected National Vice President, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Zone 3, Pastor O. D. Kalando, has promised to fully represent the zone at the up-coming National Executive Convention of the union scheduled to take placae in Abuja on October 25.
Recall that the NURTW), an affiliate of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) held its Special Quadrennial Zonal Delegates Conference Thursday, 5th October 2023, at AZNY Place, off Sani Abacha Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, where the election of Kalando, and two other officers took place.
Pastor Kalando who described the election as peaceful, transparent and orderly, said that officers of the union elected from the zone will at the convention elect other national officers of the union.

Other officers who emerged from the zone were Comrade James Uwem, national financial secretary, and Comrade Francis Aroyo, as national trustee of the union.
The Zone 3 of the NURTW comprised of six states of Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta and Edo.
Alhaji Tajudeen Badiru Agbede, national chairman, Caretaker Committee, NURTW, whose welcome address was read by His Royal Majesty Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon from Akwa Ibom state, charged the delegates to conduct themselves with utmost maturity and comradeship.
“The NURTW has come a long way, but a lot remains to be done and the future is bright. Let us use this occasion of our delegates conference to chart the course of that bright future by nominating or electing visionary people who will make the union in this zone and Nigeria greater.”
Addressing Journalists at the sideline of the election, His Royal Majesty, Edidem Sylvanus Effiong Okon, also described the election as peaceful and successful.
“The delegates election was very peaceful and transparent. There was no problem at all; we are preparing grounds for the National Delegates Conference which comes up in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on the 25th of October 2023. All the six zones in Nigeria are holding the same Zonal Congress today,” he said.
There were goodwill messages from representatives of various groups including the Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Rivers State Chapter, Comrade Alex Agwanwor, CSP Muktar Madi, Divisional Police Officer Sani Abacha Road Division, and SPC Garba Gambo Gadzama, of the Federal Road Safety Corps, SPC Garba Gambo Gadzama..
