A female journalist in one of the national broadcast media with its headquarters in Abuja, Mrs Kelechi Ochiagha has raised the alarm over the detention of her husband, Mr Emeka Ochiagha by police in Enugu.

Ochiagha was detained after reporting to the police last Thursday following an invitation by the law enforcement agents who had tracked him twice to his residential house at Thinkers’ Corner, Enugu, but met him absent.

The wife of the detainee who disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu on Saturday, said that her husband has been incarcerated at Special Weapons & Tacytics (SWAT) cell attached to Area Command by Abakpa Junction for more than 48 hours without being told his offence, adding that all she heard was that the crack police detectives came from Abuja.

Mrs Ochiagha narrated in tears that the ordeal of her husband might not be unconnected with the family squabbles between her husband and family, where the younger brother and last born Onyekachi Ochiagha, demolished their father’s house in the village without his( first son) consent.

“The trouble started when my husband, Emeka returned to the village and to his chagrin, discovered that their late father’s house ( Mathew Ochiagha) has been demolished by the said younger brother, Onyekachi Ochiagha who claimes to be living in Australia, but always in the village. This he did after building a house of his own, a kilometre away from the ancestral home.

“Irked by the development, my husband took the matter to court but curiously, while the case is still pending in court, his younger brother Onyekachi went on with the construction of a new structure in the ancestral compound.

“This prompted my husband to invite the police who came and halted further construction of the so-called beer parlour building.

“What is paining my husband is that he is the eldest son among his siblings, yet he was not consulted before the demolition of their father’s house. As the culture demands, my husband as an Okpara and other members of the family ought to have been consulted before the demolition of the building.

“The arrest of my husband by the police and his continued detention is to break him down so that he dies leaving me and three children to suffer. My eldest child is 16. It is of note that when my husband’s twin died, he single handedly financed the burial rites because the mother and siblings abandoned the deceased when he was sick in the United Kingdom hospital.

“My husband, Emeka Ochiagha, is the 3rd born and the first son after the death of his twin brother, Chijioke Ochiagha in August , last year.

“Among the siblings are: Nnenna Pamela Agu (Enugu based) Uchechi Dawn Agu (Canada based) Onyekachi Guy Ochiagha (last born/sponsor of the crisis_Australia based)
All these uncommon abomination and taboo in the Land are orchestrated by their mother, Mrs Blessing Ochiagha, who swore never to see her children in harmony for the past seventeen years. Even when the people of Amadim Ukehe in Igboetiti council Area of Enugu State have condemned her attitude in the family.

“I want members of the public to know the ordeal my husband, I, and the children are going through over the years in their own Fatherland. I need justice and fair hearing from government at all levels, human right activists, security agencies , concerned Nigerians and most importantly Ukehe indigenes in Igboetiti council of Enugu State to save my husband, Emeka Ochiagha from dying in the police detention, as the police surprisingly rejected three lawyers from bailing him”,stating the order is from IGPs Monitoring Unit Abuja , Mrs Ochiagha recounted.

Contacted, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, said that since the policemen came from Abuja and detained him at the Area Command, it is not in his jurisdiction to comment on the matter.
