THE National Orientation Agency (NOA), Enugu State, has kick-started a three-month state-wide sensitization and public enlightenment campaign on Nigeria’s National Anthem and National Value Charter.
Addressing journalists in Enugu on Tuesday, October 8, the NOA State Director, Mrs. Clara Nkwachukwu, said the aim of the programme was to re-orientate and re-direct Nigerians regardless of class, ethnicity and religion towards the values and principles that had long been associated with the country’s culture, and had formed the foundations of our institutions and society,
She explained that President Bola Tinubu, had earlier directed that “we must build Nigerians to build Nigeria,” through sensitisation and reorientation campaigns, hence the National headquarters of the agency in Abuja, the Federal capital Territory (FCT), directed the takeoff of the exercise.
According to Mrs. Nwachukwu, the reintroduction of the old National Anthem and the National Values Charter, “ushers in an important milestone for national pride and identity.”
According to state director, the reintroduced National Anthem is a potent call for harmony, equity, and prosperity among Nigerians.
She explained that the National Values Charter is categorised into two parts: the promises made by the Nigerian state through its elected representatives, and the obligations of the citizenry to nation-building.
“This social contract between the Nigerian State and its people is the pivot upon which countries are built and sustained,” she emphasised.
Mrs. Nwachukwu further said that the nationwide sensitisation programme goes beyond a campaign, describing it as a ‘movement’ “that calls on each of us Nigerians to imbibe the shared. values and spirit reflecting in both our National Anthem and National Values Charter.
“As we move forward, let us remember that if is through unity, respect and commitment to these values that we can achieve the Nigeria of our dreams.”
SummitNews recalls that the current National Anthem was adopted when the country gained independence on October 1, 1960, but was later replaced by one of the past military regimes in the country.
However, President Tinubu recently ordered the return to the National Anthem adopted at independence.
