In line with governor Peter Mbah’s commitment to infrastructural development in the state, the Enugu State Government has approved the construction of 22 kilometre roads in Isiuzo Local Government Area in the first phase of road construction in that area.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr Gerald Otiji, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by governor Peter Mbah on Friday at the government house, Enugu.
Our government house correspondent Fred Nnaji reports that according to the Engr Otiji, the first phase of the road construction is aimed at reducing insecurity and improving agricultural activities in the area.
The commissioner who said the roads construction will start from Agumgbuji – Ogbete – Agamede – Odenigbo to other parts of the council, noted that it was imperative as many of the communities in the LGA were displaced some time last year as a result of herdsmen attack.
Engr Otiji, who said about 300 military personnel were already there, added that the road if constructed would give access and quick response for any distress call by the residents.
Also, the state commissioner for environment, Prof Sam Ugwu who applauded governor Mbah for the massive work especially the ongoing road construction at Idaw River where there has been no government presence for over 48 years, said the people of the area always feel elated on sighting any government official.
During the exco meeting, governor Mbah, according to the commissioner for Information, Mr Aka Eze Aka, also waded into the causes of the delay in the issuance of the National Identity Number, NIN, which is ongoing at the state secretariat, where people spend days before getting it, in a bid to solve the problem.
The commissioner noted that the move was to enable the governor to achieve his aim of purchasing JAMB registration forms for indigent students in the state which must be done with NIN.
