Rivers: NDE flags off Confectionery training for 20 women,SYOB for 70 graduates ..Says it will reduce unemployment From Madu Barth, Port Harcourt

 

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Rivers State,has flagged of a 5-day training programme on Confectionery and Start Your Own Business (SYOB) for 90 trainees respectively.

A breakdown of the figure shows that 20 women will be trained in making Confectionery, while 70 graduates from tertiary institutions will take part in the’Start Your Own Business (SYOB) training.

Addressing the participants Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Director General(DG) of NDE,Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said the training schemes on Confectionery and Start Your Own Business were brainchild of the Small Scale Enterprise (SSE) Department of NDE,under the Women Employment Branch(WEB).

Represented by the Rivers State Coordinator of NDE,Mrs Maureen Okeji,
the DG said now that white collar jobs are almost non-existent,it is important they take the 5-day training seriously. The programme originally billed for Monday,4/3/2024, was however flagged off on Wednesday,6/3/2024 and last for 5 days.

The DG noted that the scheme will definitely reduce unemployment in the country.

“Now that the white collar jobs are no longer friendly,it is necessary to acquire skills and open your own businesses.

We believe that when you open your own businesses, unemployment will be reduced,”he said.
The Rivers State Coordinator commended the DG for this kind gesture.

The DG encouraged the trainees to put in their best,while the training lasts.

He reminded the lucky participants that these trainings are held simultaneously across the 36 states in Nigeria, including the FCT,hence they can now appreciate the enormity of the project borne by NDE.

Also speaking, the Head of Department, SSE Rivers State,Mr Matthew Amala congratulated the 90 lucky participants for making the list of trainees in the SYOB and Confectionery training programmes.

He urged the trainees to be committed in the scheme, pointing out that they will be required to fill some forms for proper documentation during the programme.

In her closing remarks, the Head of Unit,Women Employment Branch (WEB) of the SSE, Mrs Somiari Sylva Ogolo thanked NDE for the scheme and encouraged the trainees to actively participate in the 5-day training programme in their own interest.##
