The Commissioner for Transportation, Enugu State, Chief Obi Ozor has announced that the proposed Enugu Modern Transport interchange will be completed within 12 months.
Ozor who spoke to journalists at the site of the project on Saturday said that government had already relocated the former occupants of the area adding that adequate compensations have been paid.
Governor Peter Mbah’s administration had successfully relocated the occupants of the buildings, including various businesses and banks, after compensations were paid to the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), who are the owners of the land and who in turn, duly compensated the occupants of the place to give way for the modern transport interchange.
Aside from the Holy Ghost Terminal, the bus stations are to be built in three other locations in the state namely: Gariki, Abakpa and Nsukka.
This is just as most residents of Enugu metropolis have commended Governor Ndubuisi Mbah, for imitating the project.
There is a groundswell of opinion that when completed the project would ultimately resolve the existing chaotic transportation situation in the metropolis.
SUMMITNEWS recalls that during his electioneering campaign, Mbah, the then governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who later won the election, had promised that if voted into office, his administration will “modernize road transportation in line with global best practices, and facilitate the acquisition of modern buses, and construction of modern terminals to ease the problem of mass transportation across the state.”
