Ivo council boss awards bursary to 2000 students of tertiary institutions- By Paulinus Ogbonna

Chief Emmanuel Aja, chairman of Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi has awarded bursary to no fewer than 2000 students of Ivo LGA studying in various higher institutions across the federation.

Aja stated this in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Abakaliki.

The council boss emphasised that education remained the only catalyst for social and economic development hence his administration’s decision to prioritise education in the area.

He said that due to the economic distress resulting in many families struggling to meet the education demands of their children and wards the council decided to intervene to mitigate the hardship faced by families in meeting the needs of their children in higher institutions.

He further explained that his administration would leave no stone unturned in ensuring that education was given a pride of place in council, saying that no indigine of area would drop out of school for non payment of school fees.

Aja stated that the council assisted in the registration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for over 1,000 indigent students in 2023 and 2024.

“We have given bursary to over 2000 students with each student receiving N20, 000 in the two years that we floated the bursary scheme for our undergraduates in different higher institutions in Nigeria.

“We also assisted in defraying the registration fees of over 1, 000 candidates of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) organised WASSCE in 2023 and 2024.

“The council is sponsoring the education of over 100 students studying various courses at the Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu (FCAI),” Aja said.

The Ivo helmsman noted that primary and secondary education had received a boost under his administration adding that the council had distributed exercise books worth thousands of Naira to public and Private schools in the area.

Aja reiterated the commitment of his administration in repositioning primary and secondary education in the area while assuring that his leadership would continue to give financial support to her sons and daughters in tertiary institutions.

“We will continue to encourage our people to pursue higher learning and accord education top most priority; it’s a duty we owe our people and I’m committed to complementing the efforts of our dear governor, Chief Francis Nwifuru in the provision of qualitative education,” he added.

Our correspondent reports that Ivo LGA, a mineral rich LGA is located in Ebonyi South zone of the state.
