Breaking: OHAFIA -AROCHUKWU EXPRESSWAY FLAG OFF: GOV OTTI URGES FOR FEDERAL GOV’T REIMBURSEMENT, NOT Tolling

Ohafia – Dr Alex Chioma Otti, Governor of Abia State is urging the Federal Government to reimburse the State Government the cost of reconstruction of the Ohafia – Arochukwu Expressway instead of tolling it, as had earlier been proposed.

Dr Otti made the appeal this Wednesday afternoon while speaking during the flag off of the 41.4km Ohafia – Arochukwu Expressway that had been abandoned for several decades by successive Governments.

According to him, “I appeal to the Federal Government to reimburse us for the reconstruction of this very important Federal Highway, instead of tolling the road, as its not the best way of rewarding tax payers here

“Beyond, economics, the road connects to our educational institution, Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu (ASCETA). ASCETA and other institutions around will begin to experience a new lease of life.

“Beyond roads, it is about opening up a new ecosystem of education, agriculture, commerce and tourism. The success of the road project is hinged on the cooperation of every stakeholder.

“To ensure speedy completion, the contractor has been instructed to start the project from two points; Ohafia and the Arochukwu/Akwa Ibom boundary.

“We must all resolve that never again will any road in this state deteriorate to this point, wether Federal or state. May all those only interested in office without fulfilling the obligations to varnish from our state.”
