The Special Assistant to the governor of Ebonyi State on Inter-party Affairs, Comrade Sunday Nwambam, was on Tuesday, conferred with a Merit Award for his commitment to youths empowerment and community development.
The Award was conferred on him at the Cabinet Office, old Government House, Abakaliki, by the youths of Azuegu Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke, in the Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state.
Presenting the award, President of the Youth Assembly, Mr. Benjamin Ugadu, commended the governor’s aide for extending the empowerment programmes of the state government to the grassroots.
Mr. Ugadu extolled the effort of the governor’s Special Assistant in ensuring that youths of the area, benefited from the 50,000 and 180,000 naira empowerment funds, recently disbursed by the state government.
His words: “apart from the people of my village who have received alerts of the 50,000 and 180,000 naira empowerment fund respectively, other people from different parts of this community, have been giving good account of Sunday Nwambam, even before he was appointed by Governor Nwifuru as his Special Assistant on Inter-Party Affairs.”
Mr. Ugadu further said, “we think of how to appreciate you but nothing, except for us to give you this merit award for your commitment to the development of our youths and the village. We are glad about the way you extended the empowerment programmes of governor Nwifuru to our village, our people have been receiving alerts since your appointment. You brought farm inputs to our village and shared them to our people.”
Ugadu explained that the award was given to the recipient particularly in appreciation of his financial donations and interest in the construction of culvert and bridges in the area.
“We came to thank you for your financial donation and your tireless efforts for the construction of the culverts and bridges in our village. This award is just to show that we are very happy for your benevolent life,” he emphasised.
ln their separate remarks,Village Head of Mbeke Nwaji Ishieke, Mr. Francis Nwodom and the chairman of the Abakaliki branch of the Youths Assembly, Mr Michael Oja, congratulated Nwambam for receiving the award.
They, however, requested the governor’s aide and other stakeholders from the area to assist in equipping them with internet services, adding that it is currently difficult to makes phone calls in the area.
In his acceptance speech, comrade Nwambam thanked the Youths Assembly for the recognition and honour accorded him. He noted that he had earlier resolved to stop accepting wards, except from the Christian community. He however, expressed joy that his first award was coming from his country home.
“I derive special joy in deserving this my first award, as it is coming from my own people. It would spur me to do more, knowing that Governor Nwifuru’s administration remains committed to human and infrastructural development in every part of Ebonyi State,” he added.
Comrade Nwambam urged the youths of the area, to continue to work together with the elders, to promote peace and unity, and support the government in power, for them to enjoy more dividends of democracy.
He disclosed that he had already made a request to a leading network provider, the MTN, for its coverage of the area, and promised that he would follow it up to ensure their effective internet and network coverage, without further delay.
