Breaking News: former APC National Auditor George Moghalu Officially Joins Labour Party

Chief Dr. George Moghalu, the former National Auditor of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has officially joined the Labour Party (LP).

This transition comes just one month after his departure from the APC, marking a new direction in his political journey.

Moghalu was warmly welcomed by Labour Party leaders at his home ward in Uruagu Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, on October 2, 2024. At the event, he completed his membership registration and received his LP membership card amidst celebrations and solidarity from party executives.

In a statement released by his media team, Moghalu expressed that his decision to join the Labour Party was the result of thorough evaluation and consultations with family, community members, and key stakeholders.

He emphasized that the ideals and principles of the LP align closely with his vision for Anambra and his commitment to the welfare of its citizens.

“After careful consultation and consideration, I have resolved to join the Labour Party as it better aligns with my core values and principles,” Moghalu stated during the event.

He pledged to work collaboratively with LP leaders to cultivate a political culture that prioritizes unity, progress, and the greater good.

The leadership of the Labour Party expressed optimism regarding Moghalu’s defection, noting that his entry into the party would strengthen their chances in upcoming elections.

A key focus is the Anambra South Senatorial by-election to replace the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. While Moghalu’s move is seen as a strategic positioning for the by-election, he has previously denied any immediate intention to contest for the seat, maintaining that his primary ambition remains to serve as a governor.

The reception event was attended by prominent party figures, including the Uruagu Nnewi Ward 1 Chairman, Nnewi North Local Government Chairman, and other party stakeholders and associates.
