Governor Otti Removes Professor Ogulu as Vice Chancellor of Abia State University, Appoints Professor Okeudo as Successor

Professor Onyekachi Maxwell Ogulu has been removed from his position as vice chancellor of Abia State University, with Governor Alex Otti approving the appointment of Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as his successor.

The decision to relieve Professor Ogulu of his duties followed the findings of a Visitation Panel to the university, headed by Prof. Steve Okorodudu. The Abia State government had established this panel to review the university’s activities.

Professor Ogulu had been in office since December 1, 2021. The announcement of the new administrative appointments was made to journalists on Monday by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, during a briefing that discussed the outcomes of the recent State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Otti.

Additionally, Governor Otti appointed Hon. Agwu U. Agwu, a former speaker of the state House of Assembly, as the Pro-Chancellor of the university, and Mrs. Catherine Uju Ifejika as the Chancellor.

Furthermore, Dr. Onwubiko Dike was appointed as a member of the University Governing Council, along with two Deputy Vice Chancellors, four University Senate members, two congregation members, one convocation member, and a new bursar. These appointments will take effect on November 1, 2024, according to Prince Kanu.
