Chief Francis Nnadi, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi Command, was over the weekend conferred with the prestigious Eminence Peace Ambassador Award.
This is contained in a press release on Monday signed by Mr Emmanuel Uneke, the NSCDC’S Public Relations Officer (PRO), a copy was made available to the our correspondent in Abakaliki.
The award according to the statement is bestowed on the commandant by the International Association of World Peace Volunteers Advocates (IAWPVA) to mark the year 2024 United Nations International Volunteering Day in Abakaliki.
Prof. Chidi Ehiriodo, the International Ambassador harped on the imperative of working towards a peaceful society, highlighting the need for volunteerism as the peak of human sacrifice to make the world a better and safer place.
The release noted that recipients of the ambassadorial award were not being cajoled but being called to action to work towards a peaceful society.
The statement quoted Ehiriodo saying: “Our honourees are being called to action to use their time, talent and treasure to better the society.
“The world will remember them for their selfless services to humanity if they should heed the call to service.”
The NSCDC boss in his speech commended the body for its humanitarian services to mankind and for finding him worthy of the honour stressing that the NSCDC was already toeing the path of volunteerism.
He said that the corps started as a volunteer organisation in Nigeria during the civil war and worked it’s way to a security agency of repute with lofty achievements to its credit.
He reiterated his commitment to continually work for peace all through his life even as he vowed to continue to lend his support to the ideals the united nations Association of Peace Ambassadors represented.
According to the release, Nnadi was quoted saying: “I will continue to use my position; my energy and everything in me to work for the promotion of peace and to support every ideal that leads to the maintenance of peace and security of lives and property.”
Our correspondent reports that the International Association of World Peace Advocates is an International Civil Society Organisation (ICSO) operating as a non-profit making entity with a global mandate to promote peace.
It is an organisation of business technocrats, innovators, social entrepreneurs, and highly professional persons who have pledged to uphold the highest ethical standard of the United Nations.
Our correspondent further reports that the organisation has been consistent in providing solutions that will make the world a better place.
It believes that world peace can easily be achieved by dialogue and by the act of fellowshipping together as a concerned people with mutual feelings of uniting under one indivisible banner of the name United Nations.
The body appoints Credible Personalities (CPs) whose lifestyles are anchored in promoting peace as ‘Eminent Peace Ambassadors’ across the 193 member states of the United Nations. ENDS//
