PEACE RETURNS TO TROUBLED RIVERS, SAY FUBARA, WIKE

Rivers state Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who was suspended from office following the declaration of emergency rule in the state by President Bola Tinubu, confirmed on Thursday night that he has mended fences with his godfather Barr. Nyesom Wike, current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This development symbolises a significant move toward lifting the emergency rule in the state, and the return of democratic rule in the crisis-torn state.

Fubara spoke after a meeting between the duo and President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa on Thursday night.

Also in attendance were members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Addressing journalists after the meeting, Fubara said, “For me, it’s very important that this day has come.

“What we need for the progress of Rivers State is peace, and by the special grace of God, this night with the help of Mr. President and the agreement of the leaders of the state, peace has returned to Rivers State.

“We will do everything within our power to ensure that we sustain it this time around.”

Reports say Wike spoke earlier, confirming that they had agreed to work together.

The FCT minister is the immediate past governor of Rivers state.
