The Chairman, Rivers State Football Referees’ Council, Charles Dennis Dima, has expressed the importance of scaling through annual physial fitness exercise, describing it as a way to identify active football referees.
Mr. Dima said this in an interview with journalists where he announced the date of the upcoming 2025 physical fitness test exercise of the council
According to him, Referees’ physical fitness exercise is part of the criteria for enlistment of active football referees’ in the upcoming football seasons in the council.
Mr. Dima said “the twin event comes up on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th July 2025, adding that activities lined up during the exercise include free medical checkup for participating Referees, laying of Referee’s kits, presentation of Referee’s kits to best performing young Referees and presentation of award to deserving sporting personalities in Nigeria”
He also announced that the
event will be declared open by a soccer enthusiast, sports personality, business mugul and a philanthropist, Chief Fidelis Osita Nweke, the group managing director Wire-Tek group of companies, Port Harcourt”.
A separate statement signed by Awata Eugene Fabian the Publicity Secretary, Rivers State Football Referees’ Council (SPS), said “the kick-off time for the twin events is 7.am prompt, and the venue is Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Elikahia Port Harcourt. There will be medical examination for the participants before the commencement of race, and there will be Referees’ kits laying for all participating referees, while participation is mandatory to all active Referees in Rivers State Football Referees’ Council” the statement concluded..
