The Minister of Works, Sen. David Umahi has described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a man of honour, discipline and integrity who served Nigeria with uncommon dedication and selflessness.
Umahi made the comment in his tribute to the late former President on Thursday July 17, after signing the condolence register at the Federal Ministry of Works, Abuja.
The minister’s tribute is contained in a press statement Thursday signed by Mr Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to Umahi and made available to journalists in Abakaliki
According to the statement, Umahi recalled Buhari’s sense of humour, generosity, and unwavering commitment to national unity.
He noted the former President’s strong support for Ebonyi, including federal interventions and political guidance.
“He loved Abakaliki rice and I kept sending it even after he left office.
” He once called to thank me, saying he still enjoyed it; he supported us through the Paris Club refunds, Anchor Borrowers and other key interventions.
“He even helped secure the emergence of our current governor.”
Sen. Umahi also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honouring Buhari’s legacy both in life and in death, praying for strength for all Nigerians during this period of national mourning.
Our correspondent recalls that the late President Buhari who died on Sunday, July 13, served as military Head of State between 1983 and 1985 and was later elected as civilian president and served between May 29, 2015 and May 29, 2023.
