Okigwe Tragedy: Gunmen Kill Ebonyi Lawmaker’s Police Orderlies – From Magnus Aluma/Abakaliki

 

TWO police officers attached to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, were reportedly killed on Sunday by unidentified gunmen in Okigwe, Imo State.

Eyewitnesses said the attack occured when one of the vehicles in the lawmaker’s convoy on a trip through the area developed a mechanical fault and was forced to stop, while the two officers waited behind.

Reports also confirmed that as the rest of the vehicles in the convoy continued the journey, the assailants struck and killed the stranded officers.

SummitNews further reports that the road has remained one of the most volatile areas in Imo State, with frequent incidents of violence and all forms of criminal activities.

Spokesperson of the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, who Confirmed the incident on Monday described the attack as “ most heinous,” and assured that justice will be served.

His words: “our tactical teams have launched a full-scale manhunt. We are raiding nearby forests and communities to track down those who are behind this incident. There is no hiding place for the perpetrators.”

At the time of this report, the remains of the slain officers have been deposited at a local morgue in the area, while investigations into the ugly incident continued.
