Amaeze community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi has reaffirmed Zotman Nigeria Limited (ZML) as its sole preferred operator for the Mboro Ajaenyim quarry site.
The decision was contained in a statement signed by Mr Ogbonna Nwaeni, Chairman of Amaeze Development Union (ADU), and made available to journalists on Friday in Abakaliki.
According to the statement, the reaffirmation followed an emergency general assembly held on Thursday at the community hall in Onovo Ukwu, Amaeze, Ishiagu.
It said the choice of ZML was unanimous and rooted in the company’s proven commitment to security and community welfare, citing its performance in other host communities such as Ihietutu.
> “We are not considering any second option; our decision to partner with ZML is based on the company’s track record in safeguarding lives and property,” it said.
The community noted that the previously dormant quarry site had become a haven for criminals, including kidnappers and suspected killer herdsmen, making a competent and security-conscious operator indispensable.
The statement warned individuals and groups, particularly the leadership of the Ishiagu Community Development Union (ICDU), against actions capable of undermining Amaeze’s decision.
> “We call on all stakeholders, including the ICDU, to align with the position of the landlords and Amaeze community. Any contrary action will be totally rejected,” it said.
It urged ICDU’s leadership to refrain from making statements or taking steps that could cause a breakdown of law and order in the area.
“Amaeze people are wearing the shoes and know where it pinches,” it added.
Our correspondent reports that Amaeze is a semi-autonomous community in Ishiagu, sharing boundaries with Awgu in Enugu State and Lokpanta in Abia State, and is host to several mineral deposits. ENDS//
