Ahead of the Rivers state Local Government election scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 30, the state Police Command on Thursday ordered temporary restriction on human and traffic movement across the state from 12.00 am to 6.00 pm on election day.
The Command in a statement signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko, ANIPR, Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), urged citizens to cooperate fully with security agencies to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and hitch-free electoral process.
The Command said it was committed to maintaining law and order before, during, and after the elections.
The statement made available to SummitNews read: “ Comprehensive security measures have been put in place, including the adequate deployment of Security Operatives to all the land and waterways to guarantee a secure environment for voters.
“The command also wishes to debunk false press reports circulating on social media, clarifying that such reports do not emanate from the Police Command.
According to the statement, “residents are urged to comply with the restriction order, and report all suspicious activities to security agencies.”
