THERE is growing tension in the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State as Labour Party House of Representatives candidate in the 2023 general election, Dr. Emmanuel Ezeh, has continually alleged that a federal lawmaker in the state, Chinedu Ogah is responsible for the seemingly increasing crisis in his own constituency.
Dr. Ezeh told _Summitnews_ yesterday in Abakaliki, that the lawmaker who represents Ezza South/Ikwo Federal Constituency of the state at the National Assembly, has continued to instigate crisis in his constituency with undue interferences in the political affairs of Izhi people, a major clan in the Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, just as the 2027 general elections approaches.
His words: “I want to make it clear to Hon. Chinedu Ogah that he is
overstepping his bounds andfanning the embers of crisis and disunity in a constituency he does not represent.”
Ezeh alleged that Ogah overstepped his bounds by his latest involvement in securing bail for two members of his constituency, who were recently arrested in connection to threats to his life.
Ezeh also said, “while the details of the case remain under police investigation, the development was deeply suspicious and politically motivated. This is not the first time Hon. Ogah has inserted himself into matters that concern only the Izzi people.”
He further said, “why is it always him whenever harm is plotted against me? Why does he meddle in Izzi politics and sow seeds of discord in Izzi land?”
Continuing, he said, “I want to condemn a pattern of interference by Hon. Ogah in the affairs of our people. This has destabilised political engagements in my constituency and created unnecessary tension among our people, especially the stakeholders. His actions had disrupted ongoing reconciliation efforts within communities in Izhi clan.That bail he secured for the two suspects could compromise the ongoing investigation.”
Our correspondent gathered that even as Ogah is yet to respond to the allegation levelled against him by the Labour Party chieftain, observers said his intervention in the matter, has no political undertone, but purely on humanitarian grounds.
However, Dr. Ezeh insists he would take the matter before the Speaker of the House of Representatives as a formal written petition accusing Ogah of abuse of privilege and undue interference in a constituency matter.
“No National Assembly member is above the law. If Hon. Ogah believes he can use his office to shield suspects or intimidate political opponents, he will soon discover that our democracy has checks and balances,” he declared.
