Igbo Community In Rivers Resolves To Meet Gov. Fubara Over Land Grabbing, Multiple Taxation – From Chukwudi Ejimofor/Port Harcourt

THE President-General of Ndi-Igbo Community in Rivers State, Chief Emmanuel Anya, has assured that the leadership of the organisation would make a representation to the Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, over alleged seizure of lands belonging to members of the group by unnamed persons, as well as the imposition  of multiple taxes on Igbo community in the state.

This is just as Anya also called for unity, love and tolerance in the face of intimidation and high level oppression against members of the group living in the state

Addressing journalists on the sidelines of a town hall meeting organised by Ndi-Igbo Community in Rivers state,  at Nkpologwu Unity Hall, Rukpakulusi, along East-West Road, Port- Harcourt, Rivers State capital, Anya said the meeting was called to articulate a common front towards solving the problems currently been faced by the Igbi community in the

The town hall  meeting with the theme “One Igbo, One Voice and One future, featured several complaints by participants on the challenges they face every day in the state as non-indegenes.

“Today, we decided to gather all our Igbo brothers and sisters  so we could have this interaction to know how they are fairing and also to know from them the different concerns they have as Ndi-Igbo here in Rivers state,” explained Anya.

According to him, many of the participants complained that the greatest problems they are facing in the state are “land grabbing, and multiple taxation.”

“We will begin to respond to each and every of their challenges, those we need to escalate to the government, we do that and those we need to visit, we do that because we need to investigate and be sure of what we are doing,” the president-general assured.

He further said that the organisation had embarked on empowerment programme to alleviate the sufferings of widows and indigent students whose parents are members of the grouo.

He sued for unity, love and tolerance among Ndi-Igbo living in Rivers state, adding that the group’s aspirations can only be realised in an atmosphere of peace.

In his remarks, His Imperial Majesty Eze Sir. Engr. Samm Nwaokolo, Eze Ndi-Igbo Gburugburu Rivers and Bayelsa states, announced the setting up of a committee to look into the various complaints by members of the group, saying “we are working with the security agencies as well the Rivers state Governor to make sure the issues are resolved.

He said that peace and unity would accelerate the pace of investment and economic development of the state.

Dr. Mrs. Constance Ngozi Amaechi Onyerimma, the woman leader Ndi-Igbo community in Rivers state, praised the leadership of Ndi-Igbo community in Rivers state, for their mature handling of issues affecting Ndi-Igbo in the state.

She announced that the leadership recovered about 1300 pieces of land from different areas  of the state that land grabbers collected from Ndi-Igbo last year.
