Umahi awards scholarship to Ebonyi’s top UTME scorer. -From- Paulinus Ogbonna

Minister of Works and former Governor of Ebonyi, Sen. David Umahi, has awarded a university scholarship to Master Victor Obasi, the highest scorer from Ebonyi in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

Obasi, a student of King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, scored 356 marks in the examination, emerging as the highest scorer in the state and ranking among the country’s top-performing candidates.

Umahi announced the scholarship shortly after receiving news of the student’s outstanding performance from the management of King David Gifted Academy, an institution he founded in 2016 while serving as governor of Ebonyi.
Reacting to the development, the minister expressed gratitude to God and commended the student’s exceptional achievement.

“I give God the glory; I offer scholarship to this child,” Umahi said.

The minister described the feat as a reflection of the academy’s commitment to academic excellence and the vision behind its establishment.

Our correspondent reports that King David Gifted Academy was conceived as a centre for nurturing exceptional talents and providing world-class education to gifted students within and beyond Ebonyi.

Over the years, the institution has gained national recognition for producing outstanding academic results and preparing students for leadership roles and future careers.
Obasi’s achievement has further reinforced the school’s reputation as one of the leading centres of academic excellence in the country.

Our correspondent further reports that the scholarship award underscored Umahi’s continued commitment to promoting education and rewarding excellence among young Nigerians.
