Residents of Ndiagu Agba community in Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi have lauded the commencement of a rural electrification project aimed at connecting the area to the national grid.
The project is being facilitated by Chief Tochukwu Ogalagu, (T-Man) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Community leaders who spoke to news men on Wednesday in Ndiagu-Agba Umuogodoakpu during an inspection tour of the project said the intervention followed an appeal made to Ogalagu by residents few weeks ago.
The electrification initiative, executed through the Zelunjo Empowerment Foundation (ZEF), involved the installation of concrete electric poles across more than two kilometres to extend electricity supply to the community.
Chief Onyeoma Kelechi-Agbo, community leader and APGA candidate for the Ohaukwu South State Constituency in the 2027 elections, described Ogalagu as a grassroots-oriented leader committed to improving the welfare of the people.
Kelechi-Agbo said foundation’s interventions in education, youth empowerment and job creation had positively impacted communities across the federal constituency.
According to him, the electrification project reflects Ogalagu’s commitment to inclusive development and improved living standards in rural areas.
“This intervention demonstrates Chief Ogalagu’s passion for inclusive development and his determination to ensure that rural communities are not left behind,” Kelechi-Agbo said.
A clergymen and community leader, Mr Chinedu Inyima commended Ogalagu for responding promptly to the needs of the community.
He said that access to electricity would stimulate economic activities, improve security and enhance the quality of life of residents of the area.
“This project will open up our community for development and create opportunities for small businesses to thrive,” Inyima said.
The Village chairman, Mr Christopher Esheya, Chairman of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) Community Committee, Mr Emmanuel Attah, Youth Leader, Mr Uchechukwu Elom, and Women Leader, Mrs Lovina Odoh, described the project as one of the most significant interventions undertaken in the community since the creation of Ebonyi.
They pledged support for Ogalagu’s political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections and urged him to sustain developmental projects across the constituency.
Other residents who spoke to news men expressed joy at the commencement of the electrification project, describing Ogalagu as a beacon of hope for the community.
Our correspondent reports that workers were seen installing concrete electric poles expected to extend power supply through adjoining communities, including areas leading to the country home of former Sen. Anthony Agbo.
The residents expressed optimism that the project when completed would improve access to electricity, stimulate economic growth and accelerate socio-economic development in the benefiting communities.
