Sen. Peter Nwebonyi on Sunday flagged off the first phase of the Amike Aba Town Hall Road, in Abakaliki promising durable infrastructure for residents.
Nwebonyi, said during ceremony at Amike Aba in Ebonyi North Senatorial District, that the project formed part of the 2025 Constituency Intervention Programme (CIP).
The deputy Senate Chief Whip said that the road project spanned two kilometres, with the first phase covering one kilometre.
According to him, the road will be constructed with concrete pavement to withstand the area’s soil condition and topography.
“We are going to construct a road that can last for 30 to 50 years because we want to deliver infrastructure that will stand the test of time,” he said.
The senator said that he had remained committed to quality representation, adding that his interventions were aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
Nwebonyi said that within three years in office, he had delivered over 10 kilometres of concrete pavement roads, more than 30 kilometres of earthworks, as well as several culverts and bridges across Ebonyi North Senatorial District.
“I promised in 2023 that I was going to set a standard when we talk about representation in Ebonyi North, and I remain committed to that promise,” he said.
The lawmaker commended Gov. Francis Nwifuru for what he described as his administration’s massive investment in road infrastructure across the state.
He also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for supporting constituency projects through budgetary interventions.
The senator described the Amike Aba Town Hall Road as an economic empowerment project, said it would improve access, boost commercial activities and enhance the socio-economic well-being of residents.
“I love doing this because by opening this road, I have renewed and revived the economy of this area,” Nwebonyi added.
Nwebonyi also urged residents of Ebonyi and the South-East to support the re-election of President Tinubu, expressing confidence that continued support would attract more developmental projects to the region.
Earlier, the traditional ruler of Nkeleke Echara Community, HRH, Eze Sunday Oketa, commended the senator for what he described as outstanding representation.
“Other senators should work like Nwebonyi: he has made Ebonyi proud; please keep it on we are behind you,” Oketa said.
The contractor handling the project, Mr Mustapha Ahmed of Mustapha Ahmed Construction Firm, said that he would ensure the speedy completion of the project.
