The Nigeria Conference of Women Religious Against Human Trafficking (NCWRaHT), says that every human being created by God deserves to live in freedom, dignity and hopep
Speaking with SummitNews in a special interview to mark this year’s United Nations Day Against Trafficking In Persons which is observed every July 30, Revd. Sister Jecinta Chekwube, provincial team leader of the NCWR Anti-Trafficking Initiative, Onitsha province, insists that since all human beings were created in the image and likeness of God, they deserve to live in freedom, dignity and hope.
She said: “In solidarity with this global observance, the Nigeria Conference of Women Religious against Human Trafficking, Onitsha Province affirms that every human person is created in the image and likeness of God, and deserves to live in freedom, dignity, and hope”
According to the Catholic Nun, NCWRaHT Onitsha Province, has lined up activities aimed at enlightening the public of the dangers inherent in human trafficking and it’s associated crimes in the society.
In Anambra state, the State Ministry of Justice in conjunction with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Anambra Command led by Commander Judith Chukwu in partnership with Anambra State Attorney General Tobechukwu Nweke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria ( SAN) are actively marking the July 30 2026, World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
The United Nations General Assembly in the year 2013, set aside July 30, as anti-trafficking human persons day, through resolution A/RES/68/192, led through the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Reverend Sister Chekwube explained that trafficking campaign against human beings is a yearly activity of the Women Religious Onitsha Province, adding that this year’s campaign seeks to promote awareness, prevention, protection, empowerment, and the restoration of survivors.
“We are encouraging faith communities, families, institutions, and people of goodwill to work together in ending human trafficking in our society.
“The Nigeria Conference of Women Religious against Human Trafficking Onitsha Province is positioned for awareness creation, sensitization programme at all levels; in Schools, Churches, Radio and Television talk shows, Motor Parks enlightenment, Newspaper publication and in social media handles”.
“Together, let us restore dignity, protect the vulnerable, and build a world free from human trafficking”. Sister Chekwube pleaded.
In Nigeria the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) leads the activities.
The agency organizes roadshows, school outreaches, media campaigns focusing on sex trafficking, forced labor, child trafficking, organ harvesting, japa syndrome and scam rings.
In Anambra State Women Religious against Human Trafficking Onitsha Province, and NAPTIP Anambra Command, led by Commander Judith Chukwu in partnership with Anambra State Attorney General Tobechukwu Nweke SAN are actively marking the July 30 World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, with a message: “We are starting a very aggressive fight against human trafficking in Anambra” with determination to “eliminate it completely”
Every year, on July 30, the world marks the United Nations World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to raise awareness about the global crime of human trafficking, support survivors, and strengthen efforts to prevent exploitation.
This year’s UN theme is “Trapped Behind the Scam,” highlights how deceptive promises of jobs, education, migration, and a better life are used to lure millions of people into trafficking and modern slavery.
The campaign seeks to promote awareness, prevention, protection, empowerment, and the restoration of survivors, while encouraging faith communities, families, institutions, and people of goodwill to work together in ending human trafficking. To restore dignity, protect the vulnerable, and build a world free from human trafficking.
