Six Labour Party (LP)Â lawmakers of the Enugu State House of Assembly have officially joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after defecting from the LP.
This is just as some of their constituents’ say that the defecting lawmakers have destroyed their political career.
During the Assembly’s plenary, the defectors expressed their reasons for this move, citing the persistent internal conflicts within the LP at both national and state levels.
The lawmakers highlighted the importance of finding a party that can effectively serve the interests of the people and create a conducive environment for progressive ideas to flourish. They are eager to continue serving their constituents under the PDP banner and are grateful for the support they received from the Labour Party.
The defectors are: Hon. Ejike Eze, Hon. Johnson Ugwu, Hon. Princess Ugwu, Hon. Pius Ezeugwu, Hon. Amuka Williams, and Hon. Osita Eze.
Meanwhile,there is a groundswell of opinion that the former LP lawmakers would not secure nomination in 2027 to return to the assembly.
“I pity these defectors. The PDP leadership in Enugu state would not give them ticket to return to the House of Assembly in 2027.
“The reason is that their respective opponents during the 2023 general elections who are considered to be real PDP members would insist on taking over from them,,” says one strong LP member.
