The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in her determined efforts to rid Rivers State of fake, unregistered and substandard drugs and consumables has shot down three substandard and unregistered bakeries and a sachet water factory in Port Harcourt metropolis.
In a press release signed by Cyril Monye, Public Relations Officer NAFDAC, South South zone said “The bakeries were been operated in a makeshift setting made of woods, congregated iron sheets and tarpaulin were producing in unhygienic environment with lister generator inside the production room.The bakeries are located at Rmuoparali and Mgbuoba areas of Port Harcourt”.
The NAFDAC Coordinator, Rivers State, Pharm. Emmanuel Onogwu the statement led the operation according to the release said “NAFDAC discovered the unregistered bakeries following tipoff from concerned citizens and series of investigations by NAFDAC enforcement unit.”
A sachet water factory along Mgboba-Choba road was also shot down for producing in a facility different from the one registered by NAFDAC and also not conforming to standard best practices.
The state Coordinator further lamented about the activities of unscrupulous producers of NAFDAC regulated products who indulge in their illicit business with total disregard to laid down rules and guidelines, reinstating the agency’s commitment in carrying out its mandate of safeguarding public health.
Pharm Onogwu advised the general public to always provide NAFDAC with necessary information that could lead to arrest and clampdown of unregistered producers.
