Rivers: NDE flags off EBTS training for 20 beneficiaries ..Says it’s to combat unemployment -By Madu Barth, Port Harcourt

 

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has flagged off a 3-month Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS) programme for 20 beneficiaries in Rivers State,noting that it will reduce unemployment in the State.

Addressing the beneficiaries Wednesday in Port Harcourt, the Director-General (DG) of NDE, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo said the scheme was not only initiated to combat unemployment,but to encourage wealth creation and poverty reduction amongst the citizens.

The DG who spoke through the Deputy Director, Special Public Works(SPW) and Acting Rivers State Coordinator,Mr Lucky Oguchi said the scheme is holding simultaneously across the 36 States of the country and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),adding that the participants will be specifically trained on hard and soft landscaping, comprising interlocking,POP and flower gardening.

According to him,the trainees will be paid stipends while the training lasts to augument their transportation through out the duration of the scheme.

Also speaking,the Head of Department,Small Scale Enterprise,Rivers State,Mr Matthew Amala urged the beneficiaries to value what they have, which is the EBTS programme.

He further tasked the trainees to make the best out of the opportunity presented to them by the scheme in their own interests.

In her felicitation speech, the Head of Department, Vocational Skills Development (VSD), Rivers State, Mrs Chinyere Jackson congratulated the participants, pointing out that they should count themselves lucky to have been selected for this training.
She challenged them to take the scheme seriously.
