Association of communication scholars wants collaboration with Ebonyi Govt to deepen ICT – From -Paulinus Ogbonna

The Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN), has called for effective collaboration with the Ebonyi Government to deepen and fastract the development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the state.

The Ebonyi chapter of the association made the call on Thursday when it paid advocacy visit to Mr Jude Okpor, commissioner for Information and State Orientation.

Prof. Ifenyinwa Nsude, Zonal vice president, South-East of the association led members of the group to the visit.

Nsude, who also is the chairman of ACSPN, Ebonyi chapter in a speech on behalf of the group said that the association and state government would benefit mutually once there was effective collaboration and synergy between the two.

She noted that the world economy is presently driven by technology, saying that as association of scholars and professionals with indepth knowledge of information communication technology (ICT), that Ebonyi would make huge gains if it partnered the association.

“The World economy is now driven by information communication and our state being an integral part of this global economy cannot afford to be left alone in this new trend.

“We will do everything necessary to ensure that our state and its people benefit from the huge advantage and opportunity offered to mankind by technology and artificial intelligence,” Nsude said.

The deleligation invited the commissioner to its forthcoming 2024 scholarly workshop titled: ‘The Future is Here; Artificial Intelligence And the Rest of Us’ slated to hold on August 1.

Nsude used the occasion of the visit to appeal for the support of state government for the workshop and other activities of the association in the state.

She also invited the commissioner and other communication professionals in the ministry to enroll as members of ACSPN.

Okpor, responding thanked the association for the visit and assured them of Ebonyi government’s support.

He described communication business as a multi-faceted and multi-sectoral affairs, starting first from the home.

The commissioner added that the advent of information communication technology has affected communication and made it imperative for all stakeholders in the industry to work together.

He said that ministry’s effective collaboration with the association would reposition the information architecture of the ministry and enhance the capacity and capabilities of its personnel to meet present and future needs.

He also promised to give a thought to the invitation extended to him and his staff to join the association.

“Ebonyi State Government will partner with the professional body in order to expose her information professionals to modern trends in discharging their duties,” he assured.

Our correspondent reports that the highpoint of the visit was the presentation of copies of ACSPN publications to the commissioner.
