THE authority of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (OBALGA) in Rivers State, has uncovered orchestrated plans aimed at frustrating them of their legitimate and constitutional revenue earnings
In a special public announcement signed by Obidinma C. Obidinma Esq. Legal adviser, Obio/Akpor LGA, mentioned in bits and pieces read thus; “The Obio Akpor local government area wishes to bring to the knowledge of the public of a grand plot by the State leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW to frustrate the council from collecting it’s daily ticket from commercial drivers in our LGA.
“One of their plots was to rope in the Rivers state Board of Internal Revenue Service to purport that there is an agreement for a single unified daily ticket for commercial drivers.
“This is not only false but a calculated attempt to hoodwink the council from collecting it’s daily ticket from commercial drivers after the NURTW state chairman who is a staunch supporter of the number one enemy of Rivers state had openly boasted in one of their meetings that he will not allow the Executive chairman, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo to collect taxes from commercial drivers in the LGA”.
The statement alerted the public further of other grand plans the perpetrators are using to sensitize, hoodwink and spread false information to the unsuspecting public to organize street protest aimed disfranchising the the local government authority her legitimate revenue drives.
“Another of their plots is to engage in road protests all in the name of spreading false narrative that the council is engaging in double taxation.
“Let it be known to all and sundry that the collection of taxes from commercial drivers in the third tier of government is the exclusive reserve of the local government council and it is on this strength that we are doing so.
“For record purposes, the Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor local government area, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo is the first and only local government chairman in Nigeria to slash taxes of traders by fifty percent based on the current economic crunch in the country, hence purporting that he is engaging in double taxation is a lie from the pit of hell”.
The special announcement however warned the Obio/Akpor local area authority will not fold her hands and watch those the statement called enemies of the authority to go against their plans to move the L G A forward.
“Furthermore, the council will not be intimidated by a plot designed by known enemies of our state and their agents to arm twist us”. The OBALGA special announcement concluded.
