President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have announced the dissolution of both the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development.
This decision was made during a FEC meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, as reported in a tweet by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.
The statement indicated, “President Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council have scrapped the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development. A new Ministry of Regional Development will be established to oversee all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and North East Development Commission.”
Furthermore, the functions of the former Ministry of Sports Development will now be handled by the National Sports Commission, which will manage all sports-related activities in Nigeria.
“The National Sports Commission will assume the responsibilities of the Ministry of Sports,” Onanuga added.
Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, forming a unified ministry.
