Football Referees’ development has been identified as veritable tools towards enhancing the growth of football worldwide. Football Referees are force to reckon with in regards to the existence of the round leather game.
It is on the above premise that Mr. Egwurugwu Loveday Dominion, Chief Executive Officer, Dominion Sport Club, Port Harcourt called on fellow football stakeholders in Nigeria to contribute towards Referees’ development.
Speaking at the formal presentation of sports kits to Rivers state football Referees’ Council Nigeria Premier League Referees at the Yakubu Gowan Stadium Alikahia, Port Harcourt. He said “Because football Referees are the ones that decides the outcome of the game of football, they are dearly in need of the supports from club owners in Nigeria. I am doing this because Football stakeholders needs genuine complimentary support to football Referees as partners in the development of game of football in Nigeria”
He thanked the Rivers state football Referees’ Council led by Charles Dennis Dima for given him the opportunity to kit their Premier league Referee. He promised more supports in same direction.
“I want to say a very big thank you to members of Rivers State football Referees’ Council for given me the opportunity to kit your premier League Referees. I heard the request from the lower cardres of your Referees, that they needed to be kitted also; send their numbers to me, I will also kit them. I pledge also in any activities of football Referees in the state inform me, I will be part of it”.
For the Award Of DEVELOPMENT OF FOOTBALL REFEREES IN RIVERS STATE bestowed on me, I am graciously delighted and I treasure immensely”. Egwurugwu Loveday Dominion concluded.
Early in his address, the chairman of Rivers State Football Referees’ Council Mr. Charles Dennis Dima welcomed the donor and his entourage. He said “Let me on behalf of the Rivers State football Referees’ council welcome a sportsman indeed, Mr. Egwurugwu Loveday Dominion, Chief Executive Officer, Dominion Sport Club Port Harcourt, a good man, a disciplined man, a silent achiever, philosophist to the core who has made so many players that plies their football carrier within Nigeria and in diaspora.
Again the award is a way of appreciating your several supports to the development of football family in Nigeria”. Dennis Dima reiterated.
The council chairman lauded the discipline and the performance of Rivers State Football Referees’ Council Premier league Referees in the 2024/2025 NPFL admonishing them to maintain the current precedence.
“Let me commend our Premier league Referees for their steadfast and discipline in their league matches, and we promise you we shall recognize you the more if you maintain your level of representing the council through quality officiating and disciplined character.
“We are here to serve you and work for the growth of the our council. Your wellbeing is the concern of the council and we expect that the pride and wellbeing of the council should be your priorities”.
“We welcome the elders of the Council and National Publicity Secretary of Nigeria Football Referees’ Association present here and all council members to this epoch making event. We encourage our active Referees, Assessors to be disciplined in all their dealings”
Also speaking at the event, Pastor Benjamin Nwaudo Igwe PhD, chairman Rivers state football Referees Elders’ Council congratulated the kitted Referees and enjoyed them to be the tempo high.
“To the premier League Referees, I want to congratulate you for this. I say keep it up. It is very difficult to remain on top. And I advice you those things that made you to be on top keep doing it and improving on it, you are a premier League Referees today does not tell you that that is the end. And for the rest, the message is you still have the opportunity to be there”. Elders Council chairman averred.
Responding, Mr. Amos Onunwo representing the kitted Premier league Referee, pledged to be good ambassador of the Council. They thanked the donor for his bonavolence and philosophic gestures, prayed the Almighty God to replenish his pockets in million folds.
They poured emcormions to the council chairman and his executive members for their support and encouragement.
