THE Mayor of Port Harcourt, Hon Allwell Ihundah DSSRS, has pledged the full support of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area for the acquisition of land, and construction of a befitting secretariat for the Pillar of Associations Rivers state, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Hon. Ihundah made the promise at the dinner party/fundraising of One hundred Million Naira (N100,000,000.00), for the acquisition of land and building of Pillar of Associations Rivers State Secretariat, held at the Elchelon Height Hotels & Suites Port Harcourt.

Ihundah praised the association’s quest to building a permanent secretariat to run the affairs of the association, pledge the Port Harcourt local government areas’ full assistance in achieving the project, because according to him, Pillar of Associations did not only support them in during their elections but has also enhances the GDP of the local government and Rivers state through payment of the members government taxes and levies.
“I thank God for making this event possible and also thank your members for supporting us during the last local government election, as well as the 2023 general elections that produced Sir Siminalaiyi Fubara as Governor of Rivers State.

“You also supported us by paying your taxes and levies. Our duty is to deliver the dividend of democracy to you,”the Mayor said.
He thanked members of the Pillar of Associations for their support to him during the last local government election and 2023 general elections in the country.
The Mayor appreciated the Pillar of Associations’ members promising to deliver the dividend of democracy to the people as statutorily required .
He further promised to rehabilitate the deplorable Okija Street, D/Line before the end of the year, to ease the mobility problems encountered by the business community and their customers along that axis of Port Harcourt.
The Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Pillar of Associations, Alhaji Adedeji Kareem, who also agreed with the Pillar of Associations President that it has not been funny operating from a rented apartment for about thirty years. He urged all hands to be on deck in realising their mission of building a secretariat for the association, by donating to the cause.
Earlier in his address Engr. Ihennacho Hyacinth President Pillar of Associations Rivers State tasked the dignitaries to make it happen by supporting the N100m target for the project.

He lamented that for the past thirty years, Pillar of Associations has been managing a rented office, hence the need to build a permanent secretariat for the association.
Engr. Hyacinth noted that when business owners give back to the business community, it lays ground work for future generations.
“Our involvement in this project makes a difference. When business owners like you give back to the business community, that can lay the groundwork for future generations to have the platform to key into just like our predecessors.
“I firmly believe that making this dream come true means liberating the business community and ensuring that small and medium business units grow in Rivers State,”he said.
Describing the conceived Pillar of Associations Secretariat as a legacy to be bequeathed, Engr. Hyacinth urged everybody to support the vision for the benefit of all.
Pillar of Associations Rivers State is the umbrella body of conglomerate of Traders’ Unions in Rivers state.
Our Correspondent who covered the event, reported that captains of industries, Chief Executive Officers, Business Moguls, dignitaries and members of the association made handsome donations; prominent amongst them were Chief Festus Onu, Chief Executive Officer/Group Managing Directors Ferotex group of companies, High Chief Chinedu Benson Madubuko (OFR), Group Managing Directors De-Chico group of companies.
