Comrade Nwuruku Olisa – Sole candidate for the position of senate president
In order to ensure that Ebonyi State in Southeast Nigeria, wins the office of the President of the Senate, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), the Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum has endorsed Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred as Ebonyi State sole candidate for the forthcoming NANS Convention.
The NANS Stakeholders Forum comprises past and present student leaders, zonal and campus representatives, critical stakeholders across the various strata of the Nigerian student movement, and key actors within the student constituency of Ebonyi State, have convened in a well-attended consultative session to deliberate on the forthcoming election into the Office of the President of the Senate, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)
This was contained in the in a communique read by the Chairman, Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum, Okoro Joshua Offor,
Okoro said the thought of the endorsement came after extensive deliberations, broad-based consultations, motions moved by Council of SUG Presidents in Ebonyi State, and a holistic appraisal of eligible aspirants from Ebonyi State, the Forum reached a unanimous resolution anchored on competence, experience, capacity, and demonstrable commitment to the ideals and advancement of the Nigerian student movement.
The Communique made available to SummitNews reads: Â “that Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred, a full-time bona fide Postgraduate Student of the Department of Biochemistry (Pharmacological Biochemistry) of the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki with registration number EBSU/PG/Ph.D/2024/12392, having demonstrated exceptional leadership acumen, institutional experience, and firm commitment to the growth and development of the Nigerian student movement, is hereby unanimously endorsed as the sole candidate of Ebonyi State for the Office of President of the Senate, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)”
“this endorsement is firmly predicated on his verifiable contributions across the structures of NANS, where he has distinguished himself through dedication, strategic coordination, and selfless service”
“The Forum acknowledges his remarkable track record in mobilization, stakeholder engagement, and commitment to strengthening institutional integrity within the student movement, thereby inspiring confidence in his capacity to effectively lead and reposition the NANS Senate.
“That the Forum is convinced that his emergence will herald a new era for the NANS Senate as a vibrant, principled, and functional legislative institution, capable of advancing the welfare, rights, and collective aspirations of Nigerian students nationwide.
“All student leaders, stakeholders, and representatives of Ebonyi State across all Zones and campuses are hereby enjoined to unite, mobilize, and lend unflinching support to this candidacy in the overall interest of Ebonyi State and the Nigerian student movement.
“The Forum strongly encourages Nigerian students across the Federation to actively participate in the forthcoming 2027 General Elections as a civic responsibility essential to democratic consolidation.
“However, students are emphatically urged to shun violence, electoral malpractice, and all forms of social vices before, during, and after the electoral process, and instead uphold the values of peace, tolerance, and lawful engagement.
“The Forum commends the Federal Government for the introduction and ongoing implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative, as a strategic intervention aimed at expanding access to higher education
“The Forum further recommends the sustained implementation of the scheme, alongside continuous improvements, transparency, and stakeholder engagement to ensure its effectiveness, accessibility, and long-term impact on Nigerian students.
“This endorsement reflects the collective will, unity, and strategic resolve of Ebonyi State student leadership, and shall be duly communicated to relevant stakeholders across the national structure of NANS and beyond”. He said
He added that the Ebonyi State NANS Stakeholders Forum reiterates its commitment to the unity, progress, and institutional strengthening of the Nigerian student movement as this endorsement represents a vote of confidence in tested leadership and a shared vision for a more responsive, effective, and nationally impactful NANS Senate.
The Forum therefore calls on all stakeholders within and beyond Ebonyi State to support this aspiration in the spirit of collective progress, democratic responsibility, and national development.
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Joshua Nwafor used the opportunity to thank the Governor of Ebonyi State who has given the students the enabling environment to thrive in their movement.
The Special Assistant to Governor on Student Mobilisations, Comrade Angel Odono also in one voice endorsed Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred the NANS President of the Senate.
The motion for the endorsement was moved Student Union Government President Ebonyi State University, Comrade Chika Abraham Nwuphuo, and was supported by Comrade William Amarachi Cassandra SUG President Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo.
Reacting to the endorsement, the sole candidate, Comrade Nwuruku Olisa Alfred said “I am happy to accept to serve as Senate President of NANS, I have accepted to go for the mission, I am going to work with everyone to ensure togetherness in NANS”.
Nwuruku said he is going to work hard to ensure that love, peace and progress exist permanently in NANS.
It was gathered that the position of President of Senate in NANS was zoned to Southeast Nigeria, Anambra and Enugu have taken their bites, the struggle is going to be between Ebonyi, Abia and Imo states.
