​THE biting economic hardship and pervasive insecurity gripping Nigeria took center stage at the 3rd Session of the 6th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Udi, in Enugu state where the Church issued a stern, direct challenge to the nation’s political and electoral leadership.
​The high-profile ecclesiastical gathering, which drew top hierarchy from the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), traditional rulers, and delegates, combined fiery socio-political commentary with deep spiritual reflections and warm communal hospitality.
​Delivering a poignant message during the session, the officiating priest openly lamented the staggering cost of living and the relentless wave of insecurity that has left many citizens vulnerable. He called directly on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to look back at the solemn vows he took upon assuming leadership.

he The cleric explicitly reminded President Tinubu of his constitutional and moral oath of office, emphasizing that the primary responsibility of the government remains the protection of the lives and property of Nigerian citizens, a duty that must be prioritized amid the current national outcry.
​Turning his attention to the nation’s democratic future, the officiating priest also issued a direct challenge to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He called on the electoral umpire to live up to the high expectations of the public as the country prepares for the next general elections.
​The cleric warned the INEC boss to ensure a free, fair, and credible electoral process come 2027. In a sharp admonition, he urged the Chairman to handle the assignment with absolute integrity and “not drag his name in the mud” through compromised or controversial polls.
​A Shepherd’s Reflection on ‘The Supremacy of Christ’
​In a warmly received goodwill message, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Udi, Rt. Rev’d Chijioke Augustine Aneke, expressed profound gratitude to God for the gathering. ​”We give thanks to God for His sustaining grace upon this Diocese for the steady spiritual growth, the bonds of unity, and the impactful leadership being witnessed under the episcopal ministry of our Bishop and his beloved wife,” the statement continued, adding that their unwavering commitment continues to inspire faith and selfless service.
​Reflecting deeply on the anchor of this year’s gathering, the Bishop pointed the congregation toward the central theme of the event, “The Supremacy of Christ,” describing it as a vital spiritual compass for the current times.
​”As the Church gathers around this year’s Synod theme, ‘The Supremacy of Christ,’ may our hearts be continually drawn to the lordship of Christ over His Church, our families, our communities, and every facet of our lives,” the Bishop remarked, highlighting its relevance in a chaotic world.
​”In a season when the world is beset with distractions and uncertainties, this theme is a timely and prophetic reminder that Christ remains our surest foundation, our enduring hope, and our supreme authority,” the message added, offering comfort to the faithful.
​Looking ahead to the outcomes of the conference, the episcopal head prayed for an outpouring of divine insight, unity, and a clear vision that would extend far beyond the walls of the church building to impact society at large.
​”We pray that this Synod will be a season of renewed spiritual strength, godly wisdom, deeper unity, and fresh vision for the advancement of God’s Kingdom — in the Diocese and far beyond.
